MT. VERNON — Those who visit Mt. Vernon’s Veterans Park this Saturday at 2pm will get a chance for a free history lesson from the Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS). Candy Lazar will present a program on the park’s robust history which includes a zoo and even a jail at one time.
Lazar said when she first moved to Mt. Vernon and would tell people where she was living, everyone seemed to have a story about the park.
The JCHS Bicentennial Speaker Series continues May 11th with “Tornadoes of 1888 & 1957” by Lucy Baker.
