Contested races for the Mt. Vernon City Council, Mt. Vernon Township High School and Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 wrapped up last night.

Donte Moore retained his seat on the council via 45% of the vote over Raymond Botch (32%) who took the second seat vacated by Jeff May. Mike McDonough took 22% of the vote but fell short of grabbing that 2nd seat.

MVTHS’ school board will see some familiar faces this year as Matthew Flanigan and Terry Knowles both took 22% and 20% of the vote, respectively, to retain their seats. New members will include; Jonathon Ashby (20%) and Lora Mellott Greathouse (19%). Tena Elliot fell short of the 4th seat with just 17% of the vote going her way.

Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 School Board will feature Kent Jackson as the top vote-getter with 28.58% of the votes and coming in at a close 2nd at 28.32% (6 votes) was Merle Hollman. The third spot went to David Edwards (22%). Danny Young brought in 482 votes (20%) but could not attain a seat on the board this year.
