MT. VERNON — A 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail following his arrest Wednesday for allegedly firing shots in the 500 block of South 15th Street in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon police officers and detectives, along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a vehicle in the street that had been hit by gunfire.

An investigation ensured and Kenneth McKinney Jr., was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm. A handgun was reportedly recovered at the scene.

More arrests are possible, no one was injured, and the investigation ongoing.
