BENTON — A Herrin man recently pled guilty to a one-count federal indictment charging interference with commerce by robbery, in violation of the Hobbs Act.
Court records shows evidence at the plea hearing established that on April 25, 2018, 38-year-old Travis J. Taylor robbed the Valero Gas Station in Marion. Taylor is currently being held without bond pending a November 20, 2018, sentencing hearing.
The robbery offense carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Marion Police Department, Herrin Police Department, Carbondale Police Department, Murphysboro Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Jackson County States Attorney’s Office, and Williamson County States Attorney’s Office are also assisting in the investigation.
