BENTON — The Benton City Council Monday night approved an intergovernmental agreement concerning golf cart usage between Benton and West City.

According to City Clerk Brook Craig, the council is now waiting on signatures from West City officials.

Craig added that you will be able to buy a permit in one of the communities and drive in the other. However, you will have to follow the rules of the community’s ordinance where you are driving your golf cart.

The council also approved adding Kyle Wilkerson as a paid on-call firefighter for the Benton Fire Department. A motion for the council to approve lateral hiring for the police department died due to a lack of second. The council also approved amending Chapter 21 of the Revised Code of Ordinances to allow the Benton Civic Center to have up to 12 Sunday permits to serve liquor. An ordinance will be written in the near future.
