One person was injured in a three-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Mt. Vernon.
Illinois State Police say around 4:20, 46-year-old Joseph D. Smith of Herrin was driving his truck south on I-57 at milepost 93 when he drove upon a separate property damage crash in that area with an overturned camper in the roadway.
Smith shifted to the left lane striking a semi driven by 54-year-old Charles L. Grumieaux of Sandwich, Illinois. A car, driven by 27-year-old Jonathan J. Goodman of Marion, had run off the left side of the road when he attempted to avoid the overturned computer. Grumieaux drove off the left side of the road and struck Goodman’s car.
A passenger in Smith’s truck was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Smith was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
