CENTRALIA — Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison is warning area businesses of “quick change” scams being used in the area, with two Centralia businesses hit Tuesday.

A “quick change” is where the scammer confuses a cashier into giving more change than they should.

Atchison wants businesses to be aware that people are using the technique in the area and have been successful. He says the scam has also been used recently in other area communities and the policing agencies are all working together to try and bring the scammers to justice.

If you believe you’ve been the victim of a quick change scam, Atchison asks that you report it as soon as possible to law enforcement and preserve any video surveillance recorded of the incident.
