(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon City Council met Monday evening. Among items on their agenda, the council accepted low bid results for HVAC and electrical improvements from Rend Lake Plumbing at $553,700, as well as roof replacement project for City Hall from IC Enterprises for a low bid of $188,577, and for the Richview road resurfacing project from Rooters Asphalt at a low bid of $413,409.18. The City Manager provided a capital projects report, requested permission to seek bids for the Chesley Industrial Park Road project, requested permission for closure of 9thStreet from Casey Avenue to Broadway and from Harrison Street to Main Street on August 18th and 19th for Ash Bash, for closure of North Street from 10th to 11thStreet on August 5th for A Hand Up Summit, and requested permission to enter into an agreement with Azavar Government Solutions for audit of local government resources, which were all approved. The City Attorney motioned to reconsider a second reading of an ordinance amendment for a restaurant liquor license for Funblasters, and gave a second reading of an ordinance prohibiting parking of motor vehicles on Harlan Road, which was also both approved. Finally, the Mayor submitted for approval the appointment of Marty Cox to the Mt. Vernon Airport Authority Board, replacing Joe Bob Pierce.
