(MT. VERNON, IL) — A Mt. Vernon man who is facing weapons charges saw his trial get underway Tuesday. Authorities arrested 32 year old Joevon Taylor on November 26th after he was found to have possessed a firearm after having been convicted of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Formally, Taylor has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a defaced firearm, and manufacture or delivery of between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis. Jury selection was completed and testimony will continue today. Bond for Taylor has been set at $150,000. He is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center.
