(HERRIN, IL) — Herrin Police continue to investigate an early Thursday morning armed robbery at Casey’s General Store, located at 1700 North Park Ave. According to a police report, officers responded to the scene around 4:40 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery. They say two men – one black, the other white – entered the store, loitering until the clerk paused her outside duties to wait on the two men. Once the clerk was inside, the black man demanded she give him the money in the register, telling her that he would shoot her if she failed to do so. A gun wasn’t displayed. The clerk complied by turning over an undetermined amount of money, after which the suspects fled south in a black or dark blue older model Lincoln passenger car. Police say the black man has a heavy build and stands around 5’9” to 6’ tall. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored sweatpants, and white shoes. The white man has a medium build also standing around 5’9” to 6′ feet tall. He was wearing a black cap, dark colored tee shirt, dark colored jacket with a light colored lining, dark pants and brown boots or shoes.
