(MT.VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon Fire Department is investigating a fire that took place at the residence at 716 Lake Park Drive on Thursday. According to Mt. Vernon Fire Department Assistant Chief Kevin Sargent, fire officials were initially called to the residence owned by Rick Pigg at 2:30 a.m. to respond to a small fire that was contained to the attic area. Fire responders were on the scene for approximately 2 hours. There were no injuries reported. Fire officials were called back to the residence at 2:09 p.m. to extinguish debris and insulation in the attic that had reignited causing light smoke coming from the roof of the home. A third call was made at approximately 11:04 p.m. to the Fire Department, notifying of the residential structure being ablaze. Crews arrived to heavy fire conditions with no occupants in the home at the time. The Mt. Vernon Fire Department is continuing the investigation of the fire.
