King City Resource Expo to Connect Employers, Resources, and Job Seekers Across Southern Illinois
MOUNT VERNON, IL — United Way of South Central Illinois, in partnership with the Mt. Vernon NAACP, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, and Man-Tra-Con Corporation, will host the King City Resource Expo on Saturday, June 27, 2026, 10am-2pm, at Mt. Vernon Township High School.
The event is designed to bring together employers, workforce organizations, educational institutions, nonprofits, government agencies, and community resources to address barriers preventing individuals from fully participating in the workforce.
According to ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) data, approximately 36% of Jefferson County residents are either working part-time or are currently not participating in the workforce, excluding retirees. Organizers say the event aims to help identify and address the challenges many families face, including childcare, transportation, housing instability, access to healthcare, and workforce training opportunities.
“This event is about more than jobs,” said Nat Shook, Executive Director of United Way of South Central Illinois. “We want to bring the community together to have real conversations about why people may not be able to work full-time and connect individuals with resources that can help remove those barriers.”
The King City Resource Expo will feature:
- Employers with job openings and career opportunities
- Community resource organizations
- Educational and workforce training programs
- Resume and employment assistance
- A computer resource room with direct access to local and regional services
- Information on childcare, transportation, healthcare, housing assistance, and more
Employers and community organizations are encouraged to participate and connect directly with attendees seeking employment opportunities and supportive services.
The program is being made possible through grant funding provided by Illinois State Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs. Because of this support, there is no cost for employers, vendors, or community resources to participate.
Organizations interested in participating are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
