John Edward Carroll, age 68 of Salem, formerly of Nokomis, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at his son’s home surrounded by his family.

John was born on December 3, 1956, in Pana, Illinois, the son of Alva and Betty (Newcome) Carroll. He married Janet (Walters) Carroll and they later divorced. He later married Bonnie (Thompson) Carroll, and she survives in Salem.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Carroll of Nokomis; wife, Bonnie of Salem; children, April Carroll of Salem, Jessica Carroll and wife Samara of Salem, Jason Carroll and wife Melissa of Salem, and Amy Lane and husband Joe of Centralia; step children, Kisten Swisher of Salem and Karissa Durham of Salem; siblings, Brenda Krusley of Pana, Charlotte Carroll of Nokomis, David Carroll of Nokomis, and Barbara Maroon and husband Charles of Brownstown; 11 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Janet Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his father; nephew, Justin Carroll; and niece, Kati Carroll.

John began working out of high school for the Pana Greenhouse, and then as a truck driver for most of his life.  He enjoyed farming and worked for Lanracorp until he retired.   He was also a member of New Life Church in Salem.

Funeral services for John Edward Carroll will be held at Noon on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis with John Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 am until Noon at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Nokomis Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the family and can be accepted at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem or at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis.  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
