Mount Vernon, IL — In the wake of the recent tragedy affecting our community, United Way of South Central Illinois, in partnership with the NAACP, will host a Community Healing & Support Session on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The session will take place at the NAACP Office, 1007 9th Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

The session will be led by Jami Harland, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and is open to anyone in the community who has been impacted by the recent events — including youth, adults, families, friends, and neighbors.

“This is a space for healing,” said Natalie Shook, Executive Director of United Way of South Central Illinois. “We know many are hurting, and we want to give people a safe, welcoming place to begin processing and connecting with others who are also struggling.”

A flyer is available for community members and churches to distribute, and a Facebook event has also been created to help spread the word.

“We ask local churches, organizations, and individuals to share this information widely,” said Shook. “The more people who know this support is available, the more healing we can begin as a community.”

For more information or to receive the flyer, please contact United Way at 618-242-8000.
