MT. VERNON, IL — Police had no new information as of Monday night on suspects or motives in the mass shooting at a party in the 600 block of South 15th Street in Mount Vernon where seven people were shot, including two men that died, early Sunday. A prayer vigil for the victims was held last night at The Commons. Assistant Police Chief Travis Chapman says the unauthorized party took over the entire block. “If we had a notice of that this party was going, we would have hired some officers back. We were low main that night, minimum staffing,” Chapman said. “So you can imagine, you know, five officers dealing with this chaos.” Chapman said they are in full court press mode trying to find who was responsible. “There’s at least 17 investigators working on this case, and we’re going to do it day and night until we get this solved,” Chapman said. One woman, who was allegedly among the wounded, has been charged with firing a gun and obstruction of justice.
