JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 41-year-old Mt. Vernon woman has been ordered held in the Jefferson County Jail following her arrest over the weekend for alleged aggravated assault of a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a woman armed with a knife. Upon their arrival, they found Carrie Ellis outside the residence and armed with a kitchen knife. However, she reportedly retrieved a baseball bat with a saw blade attached to the end.

Ellis reportedly began fighting deputies resulting in the deputies receiving minor injuries. Reports say she continued fighting after she was disarmed and then damaged the squad car after she was taken into custody.

Ellis was formally charged this week in Jefferson County Court with felonies for aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest, criminal damage to government property, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. She was additionally charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Judge Jerry Crisel ordered Ellis to remain in jail pending trial and the baseball bat with saw blade was entered into evidence in the case.
