MARION COUNTY — Motorists should be prepared for road construction to return in a few weeks to Interstate 57 in Marion County.

According to IDOT, construction will begin April 10 on the opposite side of the interstate from last year.

This time the southbound on and off ramps at the Centralia or Route 161 exit will be closed until mid-December. This will allow workers to completely redo the ramps on the southbound side much like they did last year on the northbound ramps.

This work will also involve complete rehabilitation of the southbound roadway from the Centralia exit to the Jefferson County line and will require southbound lane closures. Again, much like what was done last year with the northbound lanes.

This work will continue through at least December 15.

IDOT says motorists should expect delays. Slow down when driving through construction zones, and use extreme caution. Watch for workers or flaggers and equipment, obey posted speed limits and do not use cell phones or text.
