MOUNT VERNON — Julissa Mercedes Laslie, 16, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:56 pm January 13, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born February 26, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois to Allen Laslie and Kathleen Hubler

In addition to her parents, Julissa is survived by her siblings, Elaine, Allen, Ciera, and Marlene Laslie; aunts and uncles, David Hubler and wife, Elizabeth, Chrishonda Laslie, Talina Laslie, and Lakesha Laslie; maternal grandparents, Diana Hubler and Drago and Catherine Hubler; paternal grandmother, Marlene Laslie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Julissa was preceded in death by her siblings, Samia and Marcus Laslie and paternal grandfather, Allen Hall.

Julissa attended Casey Middle School and during her time there, she ran track and cross country, played basketball, and played violin in orchestra. After graduating in 2021, Julissa attended Mount Vernon Township High School. She was on track to graduate early and wanted to go to college for business. She dreamed of running her own business someday. Julissa was a hard worker and started working when she was fifteen. Most recently, she was employed at McDonalds.

Julissa dreamed of going to Florida, camping, and one day sky diving. She loved to read, listen to music, watch movies and reality tv shows. Julissa lit up this world and touched everyone’s heart she met. She was a loving daughter, sister, friend, and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Reverend Rodney Mellot officiating. The Laslie family request everyone attending the visitation and funeral service wear light blue and white colors in Julissa’s honor. Memorials may be made in Julissa’s honor to the GoFund Me set up by the family.
