JEFFERSON COUNTY — The US Geological Survey is reporting a small earthquake last night centered near Waltonville in Jefferson County.

According to the U.S.G.S., the 3.1 magnitude quake was registered around 10:10 p.m. Sunday just a few miles west-northwest of Waltonville at a depth of 10.3 miles.

Hundreds of people — some as far away as Marion, Clinton, and St. Clair counties — reported feeling or hearing the small quake.
