WHITE COUNTY — A 54-year-old Carmi man pleaded guilty Wednesday in White County Court to possessing a stolen ambulance in September.

Anthony Scott Hogue was facing charges of Class X felony theft from a government entity, Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle, Class 3 felony burglary, and misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.

He pleaded guilty Wednesday to the Class 2 felony charge in exchange for the others being dismissed.

According to the Carmi Police Department, the theft happened in front of the ambulance barn and was reported by a concerned citizen hearing the ambulance doing a burnout on a parking lot.

The ambulance was undamaged when it was later located. Hogue was arrested at a neighborhood convenience store and taken to the White County Jail where he remained until Wednesday. He was released to home confinement pending a February 1 sentencing.

A fitness exam was ordered in the case after a bona fide doubt was raised as to Hogue’s mental fitness.
