SALEM — Salem police have arrested a 41-year-old Salem man on charges of criminal sexual assault of a young girl.

According to police, Alejandro Maines-Sosa was arrested Wednesday on a no-bond warrant accusing him of incidents that allegedly began two years ago when the girl was 13 years old.

Maines-Sosa was taken to the Marion County Jail where he was booked on charges of criminal sexual assault to a victim between 13 and 17 years old and aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a juvenile between 13 and 18 over whom he held a position of trust, authority, or supervision.

Police say the incidents were first reported by the girl and her father in May. Salem police investigated the allegations with help from the Amy Center.

A warrant was issued Wednesday for Maines-Sosa’s arrest, but when officers arrived at his home, his mother reportedly refused them entry into the home, despite them spotting him through a window.

When they finally entered the home, Maines-Sosa was reportedly discovered hiding in the basement. He was taken into custody without incident.
