MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon City Councilman Donte Moore says he believes the City is headed in a positive direction and is encouraging homeowners to apply for part of more than $600,000 of Community Development Grant money available.

Moore says the grant is available for people who own their home and are current on their taxes. The funds can be used for improvements such as roofs and electrical repairs among other projects.

Unlike previous CDAP grants that targeted specific neighborhoods, this large grant is available to homeowners throughout the city and are awarded based upon income.

Applications for the CDAP grant can be picked up at the Mt. Vernon City Water Department.

The grants are through Crosswalk and the funds will be available in 2025.

When asked about the direction of the City, Moore said he feels Mt. Vernon is making progress.

Moore wants people to come to more council meetings and voice their opinions on matters, which will help continue this positive direction.
