Joseph “Joe” Colbert, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on April 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1930 in Equality, Illinois to the late Thornton and Alice (Seats) Colbert. Joe married Norma (Etheridge) Colbert on March 9, 1958 in East Alton, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-four years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 24, 2012.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Glenda Sigwerth and Vickie Schulte and husband, Bill; son, Eric Colbert and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Michael Sigwerth and wife, Hannah, Brandon Schulte and wife, Lea, Whitney Waldman and husband, Brett, Tanner Colbert, Taylor Colbert, and Erika Colbert; great-grandchildren, Alexis Chaudoin, Elaina Schulte, Levin Schulte, Madison Waldman, Parker Waldman, Michael Sigwerth, Mason Sigwerth, Brianna Sigwerth, Bella Colbert, Elora Colbert, and Melody Colbert; nephews, Larry Barnett and wife, Jenny and Lynn Barnett and wife, Geri; and niece, Pam Gaskins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Roberta Barnett and Emmett Colbert.

Mr. Colbert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Opdyke Masonic Lodge. Joe was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Don Rector officiating. Full Military Rites will be held by the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Joe’s honor to Disabled American Veterans.
