CENTRALIA — Two juveniles were taken into custody after a third juvenile was shot in the leg at a Centralia intersection Sunday afternoon.

According to the Centralia Police Department, around 1:14 p.m. Sunday, they received numerous calls of shots fired and one call about a subject shot in the leg at the intersection of Rhodes and McKee.

All available units responded to the area and made contact with the victim. Centralia Fire and Lifestar responded to the scene and provided immediate medical attention. Descriptions and names of the suspects were given to the officers on the scene.

Centralia Investigations Unit was contacted and responded to the scene along with Marion, and Clinton sheriff’s departments, Central City and Wamac police departments, and the Illinois State Police.

The Marion County Sheriff assisted Centralia police in locating two subjects running from the area and taking them into custody. Both suspects are juveniles, and the victim is also a juvenile.

The juvenile victim was transported to St Mary’s Hospital and later transferred to a St Louis area hospital in stable condition.

The two juveniles detained by the Marion County Sheriff were transported to the station where one juvenile was questioned and released and the other was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police say this remains an active investigation, and they are currently following leads. The area schools have been notified of this incident.

Extra officers will be on scene at the Centralia High School and Centralia Junior High. The suspects and victim reportedly knew each other, and it’s believed this is an ongoing issue between them.
