Virginia Ruth (Prosise) Wittenbrink, 101, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:25 pm February 7, 2023 at home with her family by her side.

She was born July 27, 1921 in Marion County, Illinois to the late James Henry “Jim” and Lillie Mae (Copple) Prosise. Ruth married Francis Arnold Wittenbrink on March 24, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They celebrated 41 years of marriage together before his passing on October 30, 1982.  Ruth is survived by her sons, Donald R. Wittenbrink and wife, Glenda of Dix, Illinois and Vernon L. Wittenbrink and wife, Linda of Haines City, Florida; grandchildren, Brian Davis and wife, Roberta of Mahomet, Illinois, Julie Ogle and husband Ed of Mahomet, Jennifer Frost and husband, Vernon “Skip” of Tolono, Illinois, David Wittenbrink and wife, Glenda Mae of Odin, Illinois, Christy Neal and husband, Kenny of Dix, Brent Wittenbrink and wife, Felicia of Mount Vernon, Chris Allen of Huntsville, Alabama, and Brian Allen of Chelsea, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Melisa, Kyle, Lindsay, Ryan, Jake, Lauren, Kasey, Abby, A.J., Madison, Julian, and Lilian; great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Sophia; son-in-law, Bill Davis and wife, Wenona of Mahomet; sister-in-law, Jean Crane of Herrin, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Davis; brothers, Floyd Prosise, Dean Prosise, and Delbert Prosise; sisters, Mable Kell, Pearl Hubbartt, and Ethel Prosise; and sister-in-law, Sybil Prosise. Ruth was a lifelong, faithful member of Southwest Christian Church. She worked as a cook for District 80 for 17 years. Ruth was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and a wonderful cook. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew and adored her.

A Visitation will be held Monday, February 13, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Southwest Christian Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Mr. Randy Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Illinois.
