Norman R. Veatch, 85, of McLeansboro, IL passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at his home.

Norman was born July 3, 1937 in Peoria, IL the son of Harry A. Veatch and Bertha O. Smith.  On August 11, 1959 he married Linda L. (Bowers) Veatch, who survives.

Mr. Veatch was a United States Air Force Veteran, where he received his medical training and subsequently finished his degree as a Physician’s Assistant.  After leaving the military, he served as the Hamilton County Coroner for a number of years and worked at the grain elevator until his retirement.  He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Elks  Lodge #1882 in McLeansboro, a member of the Eagles Aerie #2699 in McLeansboro, and the American Legion Post #106 in McLeansboro.  He loved auctioneering, golfing, and hunting.  He also loved a good porterhouse steak.

Norman is survived by his wife Linda Veatch of McLeansboro, a daughter Rebecca (Larry) Karcher, a grandson John C. Kramer, a half-sister Debra (Steve) Heil, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a son Arnold R. Veatch, a brother Harry Dale Veatch, and a half-brother David R. Veatch.

Graveside services for Norman R. Veatch will be held Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Brush Harbor Cemetery east of McLeansboro with Rev. Thad Galloway officiating.  Graveside Military Honors will be performed by McLeansboro American Legion Post #106. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the HCSCC.  This program continues to struggle with funding, therefore any and all donations are greatly appreciated and may be sent to Hamilton County Senior Citizen Center, 131E Main Street, McLeansboro, IL  62859.
