Larry Gene Goss, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:13 am September 28, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born July 28, 1945 in Hamilton County, Illinois to the late Robert and Vera (Hampton) Goss. Larry married Hedy (Cox) Goss on July 4, 1968 at the Second Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.

They were blessed with 54 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Larry is survived by his daughters, Christy Young and husband, Danny and Mindy Junkins and husband, Alex, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Elly Parks and husband, Jacob, Brady Young, and Riley Young, all of Mount Vernon; several granddogs; brother, Jim Goss and wife, Cindy of Mount Vernon; niece, Jamie Alvarado and husband, Mark of Bloomingdale, Illinois; great-nephews, Nicholas Alvarado and Robert Alvarado; brothers-in-law, Bill Cox, Jr. and wife, Pam of Columbia, South Carolina, John Cox and wife, Debbie of Collinsville, Illinois, Marty Cox and wife, Cindi of Mount Vernon, and Chris Cox and wife, Linda of Star, Idaho; nieces and nephews, Jill Buck and husband, Mark, Billy Cox and wife, Jenny, Julie Hovermale, Jack Cox, Casey Rhine, Libby Donaldson and husband, Shane, Marc Cox, Michael Cox, and Daniel Cox; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins, including Danny and Sheila Hampton and Phyllis Duncan.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Miller. Larry proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He worked as a coal miner and was later the owner and operator of Larry Goss Insurance Agency. He also worked at Ford National Auto Supply with his father who owned the business. Larry also pumped gas at Farthing and Moss Gas Station. Larry was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime car collector and enthusiast. Larry enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. He drove a truck for Teamsters hauling rock to help build Interstate 64. His customers were his extended family. Larry had a very good sense of humor. He loved story telling. Larry’s happiness came from the joy he brought to his entire family and friends. He was adored as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Reverend Gary Zinn officiating. Interment will follow.
