Sunrise for Missionary Shirley Ann (Jones) Burns, born on June 25, 1954. She was born in a car in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Sunset was Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in peace in her bed at her home in Mount Vernon.

She was the fifth child, born to Jordan “Jerry” Jones and Rose Lee (Gladney) Jones. Later in life, Shirley was married to Julian Burns, Sr. on December 17, 1977 for almost 45 years. Shirley was a faithful wife until she slept away on Tuesday, September 20. Shirley graduated from Mount Vernon Township High School. She started out as a maid at the Travel Lodge in Mount Vernon. She moved on to working as a CNA at several nursing homes. She later was a stay-at-home mother, tending to her children faithfully. Shirley committed her life to the Lord Jesus in 1978. She started Shirley’s Daycare Home in 1994, until God called her home. Shirley was an Usher, Choir President, Missionary, Prayer Warrior, Pastor’s Aid President, Street Ministry, visited nursing homes, helped with tent meetings, and ministered at US Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois.

She loved to cook and was well-known for her dressing sweet potatoes, and more. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Shalin Deion Burns. Shirley is survived by her husband, Elder Julian Burns, Sr.; children, Carlos and Melissa Burns of Indianapolis, Indiana, Toba and Joe Castro of Springfield, Illinois, Tara and Andrew Bell of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Julian, Jr. and Kati Burns of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Hannah Burns of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Dejiour, Shalin, Mahalia, Destinee, Andresha, Olivia, Jaryn, Caleah, Carter, Marktavion, and Markeya; great-grandson, Deion Demond Burns; siblings, Charles Jones, Imagine Miller, Gerldine Montgomery, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Jerry Jones of Seattle, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am.
