CENTRALIA, IL — A 30-year-old Centralia man was arrested early Friday morning on multiple charges after he reportedly fought with police attempting to arrest him on a domestic battery charge.

Acting Centralia Police Chief Steve Writenour says around 12:14 a.m. Friday, a resident in the 500 block of Rhodes called dispatch to report a woman came to his door asking for help.

Officers met with the woman and noticed her eye was swollen shut and that she had multiple lacerations both inside her mouth and around her mouth.

She told police she was sitting with Bryce McCray inside a white car in front of 419 Cormick Street. She and McCray reportedly used to date and have a child together.

At some point during their conversation, things became violent and the woman tried to get out of the vehicle, only to have McCray pull her back inside the car and strike her in her face.

When officers went to Cormick Street, they reportedly found McCray sitting inside a white vehicle parked in front of 419 Cormick.

When asked to exit the vehicle, he reportedly refused, and when officers got him out of the vehicle McCray reportedly punched one officer in the face with a closed fist.

As he continued to resist, officers Tazed McCray two separate times but were still unable to place him in handcuffs as he continued to punch and kick at officers. When he was finally cuffed one officer noticed his hand was swelling.

Both the officer and McCray were taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries.

They were treated and released. X-rays showed nothing broken in the officer’s hand and McCray was taken to the Marion County Jail on three counts aggravated battery to a police officer, one count aggravated resisting arrest, and one count aggravated domestic battery.
