PATOKA, IL — The bridge over Deer Creek on Deer Creek Road near Patoka School has been closed until further notice.

According to the Marion County Highway Department, the bridge has exposed steel piles that have rusted away at the waterline. The problem was apparently first discovered in January, with the Illinois Department of Transportation ordered the bridge closed following an inspection Monday.

Officials are hopeful they can have repair work completed before school returns in the fall.
