SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — The Capital Development Board (CDB) announced Thursday more than $46 million in investments are moving forward to improve and renovate various state agency buildings in the State’s southern regions.
The funding will help address deferred maintenance projects at state agencies that have been stalled due to a lack of investment by previous administrations.
Centralia Correctional Center will receive more than $3 million to complete a project that includes replacing the fire alarm system throughout the facility.
CDB will oversee the projects’ renovation under the protocol for state-appropriated capital projects.
State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) responded to the announcement that the Centralia Correctional Center and the Murray Development Center are major facilities for both Clinton and Marion County.
He said the maintenance of existing facilities is critically important to promote the longevity and usefulness of our assets, and I appreciate that through Rebuild Illinois we are addressing some of these needs, especially at our correctional and developmental centers.
According to State Representative Charlie Meier (R – Okawville), some funding will go toward general repairs at the Murray Center, as well.
He notes these investments will have a noticeable impact for all those residing and working at these facilities, while also creating jobs for our area workforce.
