SPRINGFIELD, IL — Two members of the Centralia firefighters and two employees of Lilfestar Ambulance will be recognized Tuesday at the 29th Annual Medal of Honor Ceremony and the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service in Springfield.

Centralia Fire Chief John Lynch recommended the four be honored for their efforts in saving 66-year-old Vicky Roe from her burning home last year. She was unconscious at the time and CPR was provided. Sadly, Roe later died at a St. Louis area hospital from her injuries.

Centralia Firefighter Drake Tate and Centralia Fire Protection District and Lifestar Paramedic Engineer Ross Smith will receive a Firefighter Excellence Award. The award is given for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence and professionalism in service to the citizens of the State of Illinois. City of Centralia Lieutenant Rob Smith and Huey-Ferrin-Boulder firefighter and Lifestar EMT Jeffery Kleiboeker will receive the Firefighter Excellence “Unit Citation” Award, which is presented for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence, teamwork, and professionalism in service to the citizens of the State of Illinois.
