Michele Renee Moore

Michele Renee Moore, aka Poochie, was born February 6 ,1954 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Barbara Jean (Moore) Hughes and Fred Jones. She was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Michele fully embraced life after battling with pancreatic cancer. She was a strong, determined, and fiercely independent woman. Despite her pain, Michele stayed strong until the end. Michele made her transition on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at her home in Mount Vernon. Michele worked numerous jobs. Before her illness, she was employed at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor. In 1995, Michele moved to Urbana, Illinois to help care for her aunt and grandmother. She returned to Mount Vernon in 2002. Michele enjoyed college basketball and NFL football. On Sundays, you could find her at home enjoying the sports and cooking Sunday dinner for her family, especially if she was making one of their favorites: bread pudding. She never missed a family reunion or any other family gatherings.

Michele leaves to cherish her memory her children, Donte Moore and wife, Angela of Mount Vernon, LaDon Moore of Saint Ann, Missouri, Donice Moore of Los Angeles, California, Stacey Moore of Mount Vernon, Tracey Moore of Mount Vernon, Aashkema Gibson and husband, Willie of McKinney, Texas, and Damion Moore of Mount Vernon; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Carruth and husband, Wilburt of Detroit, Michigan, Beverly Mays of Mount Vernon (late husband, Lee), Michael Moore and wife, Helena of Mount Vernon, Sebina Geer and husband, Larry of Murphysboro, Illinois, Tiffany Rudd and husband, Darryl of Mount Vernon, Troy Hughes of Boynton Beach, Florida, and NiKitia Hughes of Mount Vernon; and a host of niece, nephews, and cousins. Michele was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara Jean (Moore) Hughes and Fred Jones; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Armintha Moore. “There was a lot of love in Mom’s life. Even though she is gone, I know that her legacy will live on in all of us. Mom, your memory will live on in all of our hearts forever.”

A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Sugar Camp Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Apostle Tim Brinson officiating, Call Hughey Funeral Home at 618-242-3348 or visit hugheyfh.com for further information.
