CARBONDLAE, IL — Two Jackson County men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that happened in the 100 block of North Washington Street in Carbondale early Saturday morning. Carbondale Police say during the course of the investigation, detectives identified two suspects – 27-year-old Demarcus O. Jones of Carbondale and 28-year-old Charlton Joshua Patterson of Carbondale.

On Sunday, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of East Walnut Street occupied by Jones and Patterson. Jackson County deputies and Carbondale officers apprehended Jones after he fled on foot from the vehicle. Officers charged Jones and Patterson with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Violation of a Bond Condition. Both Jones and Patterson were currently out on bond awaiting court appearances for prior weapons offenses.

The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

Around 1:30 Saturday morning, Carbondale Police responded to the 100 block of North Washington Street and saw a large crowd in the parking lot. Police learned that a gunshot victim had been taken in a personal vehicle to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was later treated and released.
