MARION COUNTY, IL — A single-vehicle crash around 6 a.m. Sunday morning on Nation Road sent a 23-year-old Centralia man to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Elijah Cates was traveling westbound in the 3600 block of Nation Road just southwest of Salem early Sunday morning when his vehicle left the north side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels in a field. Cates went to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash.

He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no insurance, and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
