SHOBONIER, IL — A 36-year-old Herrick man has been sentenced to 26 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday in Fayette County Court to attempted murder charge. Trevor McCammack was arrested in September 2019 following a manhunt of several hours near Shobonier.

McCammack was scheduled for a two-day bench trial Wednesday and Thursday in two separate cases charging him with Class 3 felony escape and Class 4 felony criminal damage of government property, as well as Class X attempted murder, Class X aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, Class 1 aggravated discharge of a firearm, and first-degree attempted murder. On Monday, however, he pleaded guilty to the Class X attempted murder charge in exchange for all other charges being dismissed. Prosecutors claim in the early morning hours of September 23, 2019, a bloody David Troxell walked up to a home in rural Shobonier and claimed he had been shot. Troxell was initially transported by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital but was later transferred to a Springfield area hospital for surgery. He was ultimately released from the hospital. Deputies were able to track McCammack down to a cornfield north of a gaming bar in Shobonier and took him into custody. McCammack will have to serve 85-percent of his 26-year sentence and will then have to complete three years mandatory supervised release.

He was remanded to the custody of the Fayette County Sheriff pending transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
