Ina officer exposed to hazardous materials during motorist assist call Sunday night

INA, IL — A reported hazmat situation Sunday night on Interstate 57 sent an Ina officer on a motorist assist call to the hospital.

According to police, the Ina officer was exposed to unknown chemical that caused him to start having difficulty breathing and vomiting. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and observation but has since been released. Unconfirmed reports say an Illinois State Police trooper who responded to the call administered NarCan to the officer. Jefferson Fire and Mt Vernon Hazmat teams responded to the scene.

The female driver was taken into custody for alleged possession of methamphetamine and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
