Charles Neal Greathouse, 96, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, went to his heavenly home on April 2, 2022.
Charles was born February 12, 1926 to the late Howard and Lucille (Mabry) Greathouse. He married Dolores (Curly) Schwartz on July 6, 1946 in Mount Vernon. She survives. In addition to his wife of 75 years, Charles is survived by his children, Susan Dodson and husband, Barry, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patti Swan and husband, Dean of Mount Vernon, and Tom Greathouse and wife, Lora of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles served his country in the U.S Army in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Charles loved spending time with his family and was a huge Indiana University basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian who leaves a legacy of faith, hope and love. He was a beloved Adult Bible class teacher at First Freewill Baptist church. He was also a member of Logan St. Baptist church.
A private graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with full military rites given by the American Legion Post #141 of Mount Vernon.
