A 35-year-old Centralia man was arrested early Friday morning when an FBI SWAT executed a search warrant at his home in the 400 block of Bicknell Street. According to Centralia police, De’Andre Owens was arrested around 6 a.m. without incident.
The search warrant was issued in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking investigation inside the city of Centralia and was executed with the assistance of Centralia police officers. Reports indicate when law enforcement used a loudspeaker to order Owens to exit the home; he instead fled to his bathroom and flushed his drug supply. During the subsequent search of the home, law enforcement reportedly seized a substance that field tested positive for cocaine along with marijuana from Owens’ toilet. Federal court documents on Friday say narcotics trafficking and simple possession of cocaine placed Owens in violation of a 2020 federal plea agreement. Prosecutors recommend any suitable sentence for the original charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Further information on exact charges and other details of the operation will be made by the US Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois at a future date.
