Raymond “Ray” Leo Shelton, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:40 pm March 17, 2022 at Nature Trail Health Care in Mount Vernon.
He was born January 21, 1934 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Raymond L. and Lucy (Goffinett) Shelton. Ray married Donna Kay (Derry) Smith on January 18, 1985 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
They were blessed with thirty-two years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 4, 2017.Ray is survived by his children, Kyle Shelton of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Debbie Ilbery and husband, Mark of Mount Vernon, Illinois, David Shelton and wife, Carol of Belleville, Illinois, Kim Irwin and partner, Todd Riley of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Lucille Nadolski of Ashley, Illinois; niece, Kathy Porter of Sammish, Washington; step son, Jeff Smith of Mount Vernon, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Shelton, and his sister, Geraldine Shelton. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ray was a member of the American Legion, Amvets, and a Mount Vernon Rams Fan.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 10:00 am at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father Nick Junker officiating.
