Edna Browning Smith, 105, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:51 pm March 18, 2022 at Residential Living Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born January 14, 1917 in Maywood, Illinois to the late Paul Bernhardt and Ruth Lois (Beard) Streich. Edna married Robert Warren Smith on November 17, 1938.
They were blessed with seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death in November of 1945.Edna is survived by her daughter, Penny Jacobs and husband, Roger of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Jenell Bumby and husband, Paul of Oswego, Illinois, Scott Jacobs and wife, Robin of Highland, Illinois; Joanne Snyder and husband, Jeremy of Highland, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Allison, and Michael Bumby, Robert Jacobs, Andrew and Julia Snyder; step grandchildren, Lindsay and Dale Sweetnum; and great-great-grandchildren, Nolan, Lincoln, Layla.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by brother, Paul Streich and sister, Marilyn McNeil.Edna attended West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge at the elks and she loved to sew and read. She worked for Mr. Sears and the chairman of the board. She was Executive Secretary at Sears and worked in the Sears Tower for five years.
