BENTON, IL — A late Saturday night traffic stop by a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy in Benton ended up with the arrest of a Benton woman on drug charges.

According to Franklin County Chief Deputy Kyle Bacon, the traffic stop happened around 10:40 p.m. on South Main Street near Capital Street. During the stop, it was established that one of the occupants of the vehicle possessed criminal history in relation to the possession of methamphetamine. Bacon says sheriff’s office K9 Riot and his handler were requested to respond. A short time later Riot completed a free air sniff around the vehicle that rendered a positive alert. The investigation revealed that an occupant in the vehicle possessed numerous containers of suspected methamphetamine as well as a large sum of cash.

As a result of the traffic stop and investigation, 41-year-old Jeanna M. Anderson of Benton was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession with the Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine. She was taken to the Franklin County Jail.
