MT. VERNON, IL — A 41-year-old Mt. Vernon man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to delivery of up to 100 grams of methamphetamine. Lamar Williams Sr. pleaded guilty to one of two Class X felony charges of delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth in exchange for the second charge being dismissed.

He was arrested in February 2021 after the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High-Risk Team served a knock and announce search warrant at 609 South 22nd Street in Mt Vernon. The search warrant was part of on-going narcotics investigations in the Mt Vernon / Jefferson County area. After the residence was secured, members of the Mt Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department joint narcotics unit conducted a search of the residence resulting in the reported discovery of methamphetamine, cannabis, drug equipment and currency.

Williams is scheduled to be sentenced June 23, and could face up to 30 years in prison.
