SALEM, IL — A 23-year-old Salem woman was killed in a car vs. pedestrian crash Saturday night on Route 37 north of Salem.

The Illinois State Police say Hailey M. Budde was walking north in the middle of the southbound lane a quarter mile south of Tonti Road when a car driven by 28-year-old Courtney C. Gunnels of Kinmundy attempted to swerve left and miss Budde but was unable to avoid a collision.

Budde was taken to an area hospital with would ultimately be life-ending injuries.
