MT. VERNON, IL — A 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail after he had earlier pleaded guilty to a reckless conduct charge stemming from a bar fight that sent another man to the hospital with serious injuries. Hunter Clover was facing two Class 3 felonies for aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and aggravated battery in a public place, along with Class 4 felony reckless conduct resulting in great bodily harm. He pleaded guilty to the Class 4 charge in exchange for the two Class 3 felonies being dismissed.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, officers responded April 3, 2021, to Dee Bee’s on South Ninth Street on a report of a belligerent subject the bar wanted removed. Before officers arrived, however, they received a second call of a man in his 40s needing medical attention. Clover was additionally sentenced to 30 months probation. He’ll have to report April 18 to the Jefferson County Jail to begin serving his 90 day sentence.

Clover was also ordered Thursday to pay fines, fees and restitution to the victim.
