ILLINOIS (WBC/DANA COMM.) — Increased global demand for energy and the tightening supply has led to a spike in the price of natural gas. Ameren Illinois is advising its customers to expect winter heating bills to be higher than last winter but is also providing tips on how to prepare as well as become more energy efficient, or even receive some financial help through various programs.
Tucker Kennedy is the Director of Community and Public Relations for Ameren Illinois. He says like most commodities, your bill will fluctuate based off supply and demand.
Approximately 60% of this winter’s supply of natural gas supply was purchased this summer, at lower prices, and is being stored in the company’s 12 underground storage fields. These storage and hedging strategies will lessen the impact of the increases in supply costs.
