CENTRALIA, IL — Centralia police arrested two women early Monday morning after a check of the plate told officers the car they were driving had been stolen from East St. Louis. Officers checked the plate after noting the car had a broken windshield. After the check returned that the vehicle was reported as stolen, a traffic stop was conducted.

The 40-year-old driver Leia Wells of Florissant, Missouri, and 30-year-old passenger Kora Berry, of Alton, were both arrested for alleged possession of stolen property and motor vehicle theft. Wells was additionally charged with driving and uninsured motor vehicle and having no valid driver’s license.

Both women were taken to the Marion County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bond.
