CARBONDALE, IL — A Carbondale man is facing charges after Carbondale Police Friday evening responded to a business in the 1400 block of East Main Street in reference to a report of a person threatening people with a knife.

Officers located the suspect exiting a vehicle on the parking lot of the business and discovered he was still holding the knife in his hand.  Officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife by utilizing de-escalation tactics and he complied.  The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured. Officers identified the suspect as 58-year-old Troy Johnson. During the arrest, officers found that he was in possession of items stolen from a nearby business. Officers also learned Johnson entered an occupied vehicle without the consent of the driver or passenger.

Johnson is charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting a Peace Officer, Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and Retail Theft. Johnson was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
