MARION, IL — Following an initial virtual public meeting on Illinois 37, the Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting you to learn more and comment about a proposal to construct a new roundabout at Illinois 37 and Wildcat Drive in Marion.
IDOT will share details on the project and encourage public participation from Feb. 4 to Feb. 18 through the project website, which you can find a link to on our website’s local news page. The initial project improvements involve milling and resurfacing the existing two-lane road, constructing two 8-foot shoulders, grading new ditches, and extending or replacing culverts from Wildcat Drive and continuing to the south, ending near Illinois 148. IDOT will also construct a right turn lane at Lake of Egypt Road.
Additionally, a new roundabout will be constructed at Illinois 37 and Wildcat Drive. The proposed roundabout will impact Pyramid Park in Marion, which has protection under section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Because the impacts will not adversely affect the features, attributes or activities that qualify the park for protection, IDOT intends to seek a section 4(f) “de minimis” finding from the Federal Highway Administration allowing the work to proceed.
