CARLYLE, IL — Two Centralia men were sentenced to two years probation Wednesday in Clinton County Court after they pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a violent incident in July in Carlyle. According to court records, 35-year-old Michael Allen Burton, and 29-year-old Bryson Lee Williams were originally charged with Class X felony armed robbery, Class 2 felony robbery, Class 3 aggravated battery in a public place, and Class 4 felony mob action. Williams was additionally charged with a second Class 3 felony for aggravated battery in a public place.

In exchange for the other charges being dismissed, Burton pleaded guilty Wednesday to the one Class 3 aggravated battery charge against him and Williams pleaded guilty to the two against him.

The incident took place at Tipsy’s in Carlyle where both Burton and Williams reportedly beat Kyle T. Heimann, hitting him several times on the head with their feet and a beer bottle before taking a cellphone from him and threatening him with a knife. In addition to being sentenced to probation and ordered to pay $1,000 in fines each, both men were ordered Wednesday to have no contact with Heimann and Chris Borger, to not enter Tipsy’s Tavern and to not hold any gang affiliations.

Both Williams and Burton are believed to be members of the Mongols and friends with Blane Curley, a Camdenton, Mo., man and Mongol who was shot dead in a melee in Missouri a week before their incident in Carlyle.
